Two specialists in renewable energy are starting to cooperate in the field of digital operations management. The Berlin machine learning experts from Turbit and the operators from Windpunx combine their skills to use joint artificial intelligence (AI)-supported operations management. The declared goal is to further increase the availability of their customers' wind farms and thus to push the energy transition even further.
Since it was founded, Windpunx has been digitizing its operations and is now taking the next step. Felix Genze, Managing Director explains: “Operations management is largely responsible for the availability of the wind turbines. By digitizing relevant work processes, we are even faster in error and potential analysis and can thus use available capacities for yield optimization of the renewable energy systems we manage.” In order to be able to act even earlier and more precisely with the help of Big Data, Windpunx was looking for a strong partner in the field of artificial intelligence and data analysis and found it in Turbit.
Turbit uses existing SCADA data to learn the standard behavior of wind turbines per location. In this way, the data flow from individual sensors can be used to detect potential problems. Turbit constantly monitors the operator's fleet and thus identifies potential failures or abnormal behavior that negatively affects the annual production.
The heart of Turbit are self-learning algorithms that are continuously improved through feedback loops. These work processes between AI and operational management are documented and the analyzes are provided in reports. With AI, the operator can not only increase annual production in the short term, but also monitor service calls and thus optimize the health of the systems in the long term.
Christian Fontius, Managing Director of Turbit, explains: "Artificial intelligence holds significant potential for operators. This potential must be leveraged in day-to-day work. Good cooperation with the operational management is crucial for operators. That is why we are very pleased to have found a competent and experienced cooperation partner in Windpunx.”
Felix Genze says about the cooperation: "We put Turbit through its paces for 12 months and defined work processes together in order to be able to bring the added value of artificial intelligence to our customers on the road. We are very pleased to be able to offer our customers AI-supported operational management together with Turbit in the future.
Michael Tegtmeier, Managing Director of Turbit, adds: "Our common goal is to use artificial intelligence to advance the energy transition in a smart way. For this we need strong partners and are very pleased to be able to work together with Windpunx on this mission.”
About Windpunx:
Windpunx, headquartered in Berlin, offers the complete package for the technical and commercial management of PV and wind energy systems from a single source in Europe. The company operates independently and exclusively onshore. With well over 1 GW of managed capacity from different manufacturers, Windpunx is one of the leading operators in Germany.
About Turbit:
Turbit Systems is an AI services company for the wind industry. Turbit enables wind farm owners and operators to make AI-based decisions that increase profitability and minimize losses from unplanned downtime.
