Turbit Blue: Transforming Wind Energy Risk Management with AI | Interview with Co-Founder & CCO Christian Fontius

The wind energy industry is rapidly expanding, driving innovation and growth. However, with this growth comes evolving risks. As operational complexity and risk profiles shift, the need for advanced solutions becomes increasingly critical. Turbit Blue emerges as a pioneering risk management solution, blending Turbit’s AI-driven monitoring with HDI’s insurances. In our conversation, Christian Fontius, co-founder and CCO of Turbit, delves into how Turbit Blue is addressing the escalating risks in the wind energy sector.

Patricia: Christian, we’ve been working on Turbit Blue for a while now, and it’s starting to gain traction in the wind energy sector. For those who might not be familiar with it, could you explain what Turbit Blue is and why we believe it’s valuable for the industry?

Christian: Turbit Blue combines our AI-powered risk prevention solution with HDI’s insurances to enhance coverage and offers the potential to reduce expenses. It’s a game-changer because it addresses risk from two angles: prevention and protection.

Our AI Software uncovers emerging faults in wind turbines. We give insights about asset health to our customers and enable them to protect their assets from costly failures as well as long and unplanned downtimes. In contrast, the insurance partner provides financial coverage if issues do occur.

By integrating these approaches, we’ve created a comprehensive risk management solution that’s new to the wind energy sector. Turbine owners benefit from both reduced failure rates and financial security.

Patricia: That sounds innovative. But innovation often means significant changes for users. How does Turbit Blue integrate into existing wind farm operations?

Christian: We’ve designed Turbit Blue to integrate seamlessly with existing processes. Customers using Turbit who upgrade to Turbit Blue for AI insurance don’t need to change their core work processes - Turbit simply becomes part of the obligation, and all obligations for AI Insurances are fulfilled. Similarly, HDI has worked hard to keep their core insurance mechanics the same, ensuring a smooth transition for our customers.

While most processes remain the same, this insurance product is new because it leverages modern technology. This is crucial because risk in the wind industry is increasing as turbines get bigger and more complex. Our AI allows both turbine owners and insurers to manage these risks more effectively. The efficiency gain from using AI is the new element here, and that’s where the added value for the owner comes in.

Patricia: You seem very passionate about this project. What aspects of Turbit Blue do you find most exciting, and can you share any early success stories?

Christian: What really excites me is how Turbit Blue addresses the escalating risks in the wind energy sector. We’re seeing higher downtime costs, labor shortages, more complex supply chains and logistics, and increasingly complex wind turbine technology. AI Insurance is a fresh approach to these challenges.

While AI insurance might be new, the underlying products – insurance from HDI and AI from Turbit – have proven themselves in the sector for years. It’s this combination of innovation and proven reliability that’s truly exciting.

As for early successes, our first AI Insurance customers have seen significant efficiency gains. Those have led to substantial reductions in operational expenses (OPEX) and more comprehensive risk coverage. One of our early adopters has achieved a 30% reduction in their OPEX. This is a game-changing outcome in an industry where efficiency gains are crucial for profitability and competitiveness.

Patricia: Those results are impressive. As we wrap up, could you give us a glimpse into the future of Turbit Blue and AI Insurance in the wind energy sector?

Christian: We’re just at the beginning. We see a lot more potential for efficiency gains as we continue to develop Turbit AI and deepen our understanding of the AI Insurance market in wind energy. We’re committed to unlocking these benefits for our customers as we move forward.

Patricia: Thank you so much for telling us more about Turbit Blue, Christian. It’s been truly enlightening!

Christian: It’s been my pleasure. Have a great day!

Turbit Blue represents a step forward in mitigating risks and enhancing operational efficiency within the renewable energy sector. With early adopters reporting significant OPEX reductions, Turbit Blue is set to play a role in shaping a more resilient and profitable future for wind energy operations. As the industry evolves, solutions like Turbit Blue will be key to ensuring its sustainable growth and long-term success.
